A soulful sweet film based on the true story of arthritic artist Maud Lewis. Beautiful cinematography that captures the simplicity of the artists life, with an excellent performance by Sally Hawkins as the quirky, softly-spoken Maud. Romanticising emotional, and to a lesser degree physical abuse in a relationship, this film does disappoint in trying to hide some of the uglier facts of the artists life. A slow film that runs a bit too long, “Maudie” pulls at the heart-strings showing the many faces of love and tragedy.
